Italiaanse banden tussen Percuros en LUMC, met onder meer nepinstituut voor kankertherapie

In de fraud case surrounding Percuros that the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) was involved in for years, it has come to light that there are also Italian connections. Alan Chan (60), a Brit who founded the European subsidy bureau Percuros bv in 2005, has been linked to various real estate projects in the Italian town of Nemi, two of which were falsely presented as scientific projects involving the LUMC. European subsidies totaling millions of euros were channeled to Nemi with no scientific work being conducted. Chan is under scrutiny by the Italian law enforcement for possible fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, and involvement in a criminal network. Percuros, established in Leiden in 2005, acquired over 42 million euros in European grants between 2013 and 2022 for international research at the LUMC, much of which was manipulated. Pancras Hogendoorn was removed from the LUMC boardroom in February due to these revelations, with Percuros being declared bankrupt while Chan continued under the name Aka Biotech.
